Celebrate The 50th Horseman’s Sunday

On Sunday 17 September the Connaught Village neighbourhood will play host to the momentous 50th anniversary of Horseman’s Sunday. This equestrian event marks the unifying 1967 protest against closures of the area’s stables. Taking place at St John’s Hyde Park, celebrations begin from 10am and continue into the late afternoon.

Kicking things off with The Eucharist from 10am, the service will be accompanied by stunning performances from an orchestra and choir. After the service, Custard the Clown and his trusty sidekick, Caramel the ‘horse’, will be on-hand to entertain children.

Festivities will not end there, a wide range of free activities will ensue throughout the afternoon. These will include a fête featuring hook-a-duck, face painting and a book tombola, incredible live jazz from Nico Sabatini, and a wide range of delicious free food stalls offering savoury snacks, cakes, sweets and more.

It will be hard for you to miss the colourful horse parade from 12pm, when the horses and their riders will assemble at the entrance of the church for a Blessing and Thanksgiving. Make sure you stay for the larger parade around the surrounding area of Hyde Park and Connaught Village in which the merriment will continue into the late afternoon. A wonderful way to make the most of the last of the summer days in London.
